Hanna ends term on Decker group

Sylvia Hanna, founder of the Decker Boulevard Business Coalition, has wrapped up a four-year tenure as president. Hanna, who works with her husband, Marion, at a State Farm Insurance office there, started the organization in 2006 with three other business owners. In four years, the group grew to more than 40 concerned business owners, community leaders and neighborhood associations. Richland County approached Hanna about starting the coalition, which is working to revitalize the two-mile corridor. Members have walked Decker Boulevard to recruit businesses, held meet-and-greet events, sponsored neighborhood cleanups and organized a “Taste of Vietnam,” among other things. Beautification and lighting are high-profile issues for the organization, Hanna said. The group’s new president is James Manning, a member of the Richland 2 school board.
